He has joined the Survey Department of Sri Lanka in 1985 as a probationary Asst. Supdt. Surveys and completed the Higher Diploma Course in Surveying (Post Graduate Diploma) in 1988. At the completion of Higher Diploma Course he was assigned as a leader of a survey team consisted of 8 – 12 surveyors. He was responsible for organizing, executing and quality control of all kinds of land survey tasks entrusted to the team for the standards of the Survey Department. During this period, he engaged on supervision of the survey work related to Cadastral Surveys, Topographical Surveys, Engineering Surveys, Road and Channel Setting out and Control Surveys etc, using modern surveying equipment viz. Total Station, Precise Levels and GPS instruments.
